Stress: The Extinction Agenda - Organized Konfusion [1994]

"How does one define an underrated classic at the level of 'Stress: The Extinction Agenda'. Sure, Organized Konfusion turned heads with their self-titled debut which can sort of be labeled as the underground's 'The Low End Theory'. As anyone familiar with hip-hop knows, Organized Konfusion possesses an extremely fluent poet in the form of Pharoahe Monch who literally gives probably the best rap performance ever on this record. His style is one of a kind, and those who label him as the second coming of Rakim are right on point. He has proven time and time again that he is a genius lyricist and his two solo records 'Internal Affairs' (1999) and 'Desire' (2007) are testaments to his prowess behind the mic. His partner in crime Prince Po delivers in an extreme contrast to Monch, his style is just as conscious but usually completely to the point which is definitely a nice counter to Monch's very hefty rhymes." - pixiesfanyo

I'm dead serious here. This is probably one of the greatest rap albums of all time.

Fucked up Friends - Tobacco [2008]

Tobacco sometimes runs with a group called Black Moth Super Rainbow. On Fucked Up Friends, his latest mission, he works alone.

Tobacco's tools are analog synths, tape machines, and deformed incantations from throats unknown. His music is a wash of distortion and melody over jagged beats. It amalgamates hypnotic, cosmopolitan pop, gritty, propulsive hip-hop and a night full of fevered dreams. It buoys the spirit, braces the nerves, and smuggles disoriented paranoia deep into the subconscious. These are anxiously driven, effortlessly smooth and unapologetically badass sounds of inner nature.

Fucked Up Friends is a collection of boombox rockers that sidestep lazy nominalizations as they weave their cryptic inferences. "Hairy Candy"echoes the summer-fixated celebrations of BMSR, but with a dark, fevered perimeter. "Hawker Boat" and "Dirt (Instrumental Version)" strain stadium-rock grandeur through a dirty filter and serve it with rocks and salt. "Side 8 (Big Gums Version)," "Backwoods Altar" and "Get My Nails Did" expose a deep menace beneath their enticing rhythms - they get stuck in your head like sinister get-rick-quick schemes.

As a whole, the album establishes a one-man genre. Even with the latest tape-to-tape dubbing technology, Fucked Up Friends can't be duplicated.

Tobacco hails from rural Pennsylvania. He does not desire contact with the public at large.

Alopecia: The Demos!! - WHY? [2008]

Rough demo versions from Alopecia. I bought this at their show in emo's during SXSW.

I love demos. Especially when they're demos from albums i really love. Its very interesting to see how the songs evolve, especially after listening to the finished product.

Brigadoon - P:ano [2005]

A 22-track masterpiece. P:ano's sound is a diversity of musical and thematic interests, and the band members play several instruments. The vocals on this release are beautifully executed by the band. There is a good mixture of male/female vocals along with some tremendous harmonies. P:ano is a band that reminds me of several groups that I already admire and listen to. You can hear bits and pieces of neutral milk hotel, magnetic fields, saturday looks good to me, and half handed cloud on this cd. To be specific tracks 5 and 7 sound like electronic pop songs of the magnetic fields. The female singer sounds similar to the vocalist in saturday looks good to me. (especially on pure evil) Overall the tracks on this disc are consistently great due to the high quality songwriting talents of band leader nick krgovich.

The Unseen - Quasimoto [2000]

Man....words cannot describe the feeling that i got when i heard this cd. there is no other hip hop album like it in my opinion, and i have heard some clever ones. it's like he took what MF DOOM was doing and just did something else with it. my favorite tracs on here is Boom Music and part 1 of DISCIPLINE 99. i am a sucka for that helium-filled sound. it goes against the grain, and i love artists who do that, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!! get it, close your doggone eyes, use headphones for better effect, and enjoy!!!!

I can't help but to say this album has some exceptional and rather creative tracks. The album starts out as a confessional of the Madlib alter-ego Quasimoto but descends into madness, which makes it rather humorous at times. The beats and melodies are top notch too...

WASHERE - subtle [2008]

Pretty good compilation of live songs and demos from the band. I got this from Dose himself at the subtle show a few weeks ago. Its handmade and pretty dope and i believe you can only get a physical copy at their shows.

I was kind of expecting a live bootleg from any of their amazing shows, but still the live songs sound pretty good. The demos and the jams aren't that bad either...

I recommend you to listen to Swanmeat.

The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place - Explosions In The Sky [2003]

This one is definitely the type of album that fits in the "albums that have changed my life" category. Explosions in The Sky are one of the first post-rock bands i heard during my emo-agnsty-post-music phase. Not really but yeah, if you don't like this album, it is probably because THERE IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR MUSICAL TASTE.

idk i love this album check it... asap

Every Direction Is North - El Ten Eleven [2007]

Pretty cool album i discovered on waffles a few weeks ago. El Ten Eleven is a 2-man instrumental band that have a very unique electronic sound. They combine guitar/bass arrangements with some sick looping and sampling.

Check it out, he's got a song called Dax Pierson. For those of you who don't know of Dax, he's a member from subtle who got in a really nasty accident and left paralyzed from the chest down when the Subtle tour van hit a patch of black ice in Iowa during their US tour.

Anyway, this album is quite relaxing and i think everyone would like it.

Presage - Future Primitive Sound [1998]

Mr. Dibbs, Jerl and Doseone (anticon.) of the 1200 Hobos.

Not straight hip hop MC material, but instead, an atmospheric mix of samples, beats and spoken work bits. All the tracks, all 13 of them, deal with various conspiracy theories in an abstract way -- from the Illuminati to the New World Order and Trilateralism to credit cards and bar codes, but they've still got a sense of humor. A 60 minute sound collage that could be background music of sorts, but still keeps your attention. In a nice package with a cover painting of conspiracy theory symbols done up in sort of a Jean-Michel Basquiat style

King Khan

So you like bands nobody has ever heard of? King Khan is by far the most straight-up extraordinary, supreme rock&roller out there right now imo. The music he makes with his band creates some sort cracked vintage universe very influenced in 60's garage rock and surf and even soul music. I only know of 2 oh his projects: King Khan & the Shrines, and The King Khan & BBQ Show.

What is?! - King Khan & the Shrines [2007]
King Khan and his band play some of the catchiest, funnest, most fantastic music i've heard in a while. Its the music's attitude that makes this album so great idk... download it.

Midnight Boom - The Kills [2008]

Midnight Boom is all about grit and grooves and sexyness.

I can say without a doubt that this is their most accomplished album to date and it's the quintessential Kill's record people should own. It's fun, dark, and rockin' all at the same time. For people who've been listening to the Kills since their first two albums, this is that "home run" album. And for people who haven't heard of the Kills previous music, this is definitely the best place to start.

If I was being raped with The Kills in the backround i'd be like "Hey not bad!"

Resurgam - Alias [2008]

Alias is a great human being. He's one of the co-founders of anticon. and he started as a rapper at first during his first years of his career he also produced songs, but would still rap over another producer's work.

Alias moved away from rapping to focus solely on production, releasing the instrumental albums Muted and All Things Fixable. His production work also moved away from sampling and began to involve more synthesizers and self-played instrumentation such as guitar.

Whatever, this release is one of my all time favorites from this year... its got special guests like Yoni Wolf.

AMAZING AMAZING album imo.

DOWNLOAD ASAP.

IWRESTLEDABEARONCE - IWRESTLEDABEARONCE [2007]

FOR THE TUFF GUYS AND GIRLS ONLY...
PUSSIES KEEP OUT!

Not but seriously though... this band is basically awesome. I'm not too fond of this type of music but i must say that these guys have quite a unique sound. I really dig their song structures and the whole fact that the lead singer has a more manlier scream than me.

Anyway, if you dont like this at all upon first listen, it is most likely that you never will....

Clandestino : Esperando la ultima ola... - Manu Chao [1998]

Manu Chao is truly a fantastic, beautiful human being that needs your appreciation. This is his debut album and this is Manu at his best imo. His music convines alot of musical styles and languages.

There is so much culture in his music and its exactly what i've been wanting to hear lately.

There's a pretty interesting thing about this album too. Its got sound bites of radio stations, television shows throughout the songs... some of them are pretty random, but they give the songs the "Manu Chao" distinct escence.

Anyway here's a couple of videos from this GREAT album.

Maps & Atlases

I've been listening to this band a WHOLE lot lately as well. When i first heard them i was like

"ahh fuck another typical math-rock band rippin; off LITE, Don Cab, etc etc etc"

But oh i was wrong!... they play a unique blend of math rock and freak folk, their songs finding a common ground between intimate and complicated and each of the members skills are inspiring (almost to the point of personal frustration)

When you listen to their music you will be like

“That’s amazing… I’ll never be able to do that.”

But yeah check them out... here's their EP

Minus The Bear

I fucking love Minus The Bear. Their sound is so modern and catchy and well they're just an awesome band in general. Also the name "Minus The Bear" sounds awesome imo.

They have a very unique way of guitar tapping and playing. Their album "Planet of Ice" was one of my favorites last year but i still prefer "Menos El Oso".

Menos El Oso is probably their greatest album ever. You just NEED to listen to this album so you can understand wtf i'm talking about.

I can never express myself to my fullest in English so you'll have to stick with my shitty opinion and just download the goddamn album.

Acoustics EP [2008]

This AMAZING EP leaked yesterday i believe and its basically a 7 track EP othat features seven tracks total: six acoustic versions of songs from past albums and a new song, "Guns & Ammo."

I got it last night and i think its wonderful because its like nothing they've ever done before. I especially recomend the track "Knights"

Also the album cover is very pretty... i love it.

This was released digitally by Tigre Blanco Records but the physical copies of the album will only be sold on the bands 2008 headlining tour.

Solid stuff.

Recordings Of Music For Film - Vincent Gallo [2002]

This is another creation/compilation from actor/director/writer/artist/architect/producer/blah/blah/blah, Vincent Gallo. ...the guy is an artistic genius!!!!!!, whether you like him or not.

This is quite a unique album. To fully appreciate the songs, it definitely helps to be aware of the context for which the music was written. Vincent includes amusing sleeve notes to inform us of where he was in life at the time of each song's creation, and some of it is pretty damn funny. Gallo is a unique personality, therefore, his music is a direct reflection of that.
Each track evokes a mood, correlating to whatever scene it was written for. Gallo had a passion for collecting instruments, and there is a wide diversity of sound throughout the album. Come to think of it, I believe his voice is only heard on one or two tracks.

The album is very ambient, very delicate; I hope to someday have the opportunity to watch some of the films the music was made for.

Saga Mama - Jessu Bulbo [2006]

whatever...

Holy shit, this is one of the greatest album i've heard in a long time. 13&God is a music collaboration between The Notwist and Themselves.

Another great anticon. release! Also i think i forgot to mention that i'm probably the biggest Doseone cocksocker in the planet earth so this probably explains why i love this so much.

Hoy A Las Ocho - Hello Seahorse [2007]

Yet ANOTHER mexi-band with a singer that sings in English. There's plenty of bands like this already but only Hello Seahorse! has a gorgeous girl singing in English so that's that. They sing in Spanish too btw.

Music-wise, the album is pretty solid too. Typical easy-to-listen Pop-Rock with interesting lyrics and interesting song-structures.

Did i forgot to mention that the singer is a total babe? Srsly i think i'm in love with her...

Also here's their single

Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See but Cannot Feel - Atlas Sound [2008]

My #3 choice for album of the year. For those that don't know of Atlas Sound, Its Bradford James Cox's solo project. Cox is more known for his lead vocals in the band Deerhunter.

Anywho, this album is FAN FUCKEN TASTIC... for those who like ambient, and well new sounds in general idk...... any panda bear fan would find this quite lovely...idk..

Also, the guy released 6 EPs this year!!... that's pretty insane imo.

so yeah..

Board Up The House - Ghengis Tron [2008]

First time i heard of Ghengis Tron was back in 06 at a festival called SXSW here in Texas. They're probably the only band without an actual drummer and a bassist that are able to rock my balls off; especially live.

They make a creative combination of metal with different types of electronic music hence why alot people often classify them as cybergrind (whateverthefuckthatmeans).

Anyway, Ghengis Tron totally outdid themselves with this 08 release, developing a more diverse sound like ambient and doom.

One of my favorite 08 releases. Get it ASAP.

Tera Melos IS the motherfucking definition of Math-Rock.

A beautiful, beautiful instrumental album full of dynamic creativeness, complex compositions and a sound that cannot be compared with anything.

The Way the Wind Blows - A Hawk and a Hacksaw [2006]

Pretty much, one of the coolest albums from one of the coolest bands i've ever heard.

The band consists of Jeremy Barnes, who was previously the drummer for Neutral Milk Hotel, and violinist Heather Trost.

The music is inspired by eastern European and particularly Balkan traditions, and is mostly instrumental with occasional vocals, shouts and cheers. Very similar to Beirut.

Fantastic album. Get it RFN.

Brother, Sister - mewithoutYou [2006]
