Clandestino : Esperando la ultima ola... - Manu Chao [1998]

Manu Chao is truly a fantastic, beautiful human being that needs your appreciation. This is his debut album and this is Manu at his best imo. His music convines alot of musical styles and languages.

There is so much culture in his music and its exactly what i've been wanting to hear lately.

There's a pretty interesting thing about this album too. Its got sound bites of radio stations, television shows throughout the songs... some of them are pretty random, but they give the songs the "Manu Chao" distinct escence.

Anyway here's a couple of videos from this GREAT album.

Maps & Atlases

I've been listening to this band a WHOLE lot lately as well. When i first heard them i was like

"ahh fuck another typical math-rock band rippin; off LITE, Don Cab, etc etc etc"

But oh i was wrong!... they play a unique blend of math rock and freak folk, their songs finding a common ground between intimate and complicated and each of the members skills are inspiring (almost to the point of personal frustration)

When you listen to their music you will be like

“That’s amazing… I’ll never be able to do that.”

But yeah check them out... here's their EP

You & Me & The Mountain [2008]

I recomend anyone to start of with this brilliant EP...

Minus The Bear

I fucking love Minus The Bear. Their sound is so modern and catchy and well they're just an awesome band in general. Also the name "Minus The Bear" sounds awesome imo.

They have a very unique way of guitar tapping and playing. Their album "Planet of Ice" was one of my favorites last year but i still prefer "Menos El Oso".

Menos El Oso is probably their greatest album ever. You just NEED to listen to this album so you can understand wtf i'm talking about.

I can never express myself to my fullest in English so you'll have to stick with my shitty opinion and just download the goddamn album.

Acoustics EP [2008]

This AMAZING EP leaked yesterday i believe and its basically a 7 track EP othat features seven tracks total: six acoustic versions of songs from past albums and a new song, "Guns & Ammo."

I got it last night and i think its wonderful because its like nothing they've ever done before. I especially recomend the track "Knights"

Also the album cover is very pretty... i love it.

This was released digitally by Tigre Blanco Records but the physical copies of the album will only be sold on the bands 2008 headlining tour.

Solid stuff.

Recordings Of Music For Film - Vincent Gallo [2002]

This is another creation/compilation from actor/director/writer/artist/architect/producer/blah/blah/blah, Vincent Gallo. ...the guy is an artistic genius!!!!!!, whether you like him or not.

This is quite a unique album. To fully appreciate the songs, it definitely helps to be aware of the context for which the music was written. Vincent includes amusing sleeve notes to inform us of where he was in life at the time of each song's creation, and some of it is pretty damn funny. Gallo is a unique personality, therefore, his music is a direct reflection of that.
Each track evokes a mood, correlating to whatever scene it was written for. Gallo had a passion for collecting instruments, and there is a wide diversity of sound throughout the album. Come to think of it, I believe his voice is only heard on one or two tracks.

The album is very ambient, very delicate; I hope to someday have the opportunity to watch some of the films the music was made for.
